Choose twelve of your original characters in any particular order. (NO PEEKING AT THE QUESTIONS AT THIS STAGE!) Then, answer the questions that follow and don’t forget to tag a couple of people when you’re finished.

I wasn't sure I even had 12 original characters. Turns out I do, but only if you settle for not being able to read about most of them as of yet.

1. Iloraen - Elf princess from The Point at Infinity (not yet fit for public consumption). She specializes in magic cast by drawing symbols and is very protective of her brother, Epherus.
2. Cadmus - Tragic hero of the Tapestry series (taken down indefinitely for revision). He runs away from home to learn magic so that he won't be a burden on his family.
3. Nakagawa Shizue - First introducted Terran Seishi in Twixt Earth and Sky, my post-series Fushigi Yuugi fic. A Japanese schoolgirl who's not all that happy about having to save the world.
4. Jervaine - One of the main characters of The Point at Infinity. He's a cleric, among other things. His true identity is a major spoiler. :P
5. Erif Shadow - One of the main characters of Field of Unicorns, the sequel to Tapestry. At this stage of developing his character, he's still of the "support pretty boy with absolutely no character defects" mold. ^^;;
6. Jonathan Hollande - Another Terran Seishi from Twixt Earth and Sky, first introduced in Chapter 3. He's a computer programmer and a big dork.
7. Andrew Sorenson - The (very competent and much beloved) "benign dictator" of a fictional island in the Pacific called Arisova.
8. Ara Lendel - The main character of Elysium Poison, one of my sci-fi stories. She's a naturalist recruited to resume research on Earth II, a sort of Noah's Ark planet of Earth species.
9. Clarisse Morianis - An assassin hired to kill Andrew Sorenson in the Arisova series. She kicks much ass . . . or will, someday... ^^;;
10. Oralis - Another main character from The Point at Infinity. He's a swordsman who traveled to another world to save his love.
11. Dominique Evelyn DeSay - The first log-keeper in The Planets (on my site), a sci-fi story about kids from a colony on the sun sent as diplomats to the other planets and also the only series I've ever written in first person. Probably something of a Mary Sue.
12. Quethiril - A Pokémon language researcher featured in several fics, including "All in the Family" (old and crappy, don't read) and "The Pleasure Principle" (on my site). Also somewhat Mary Sue, but that was originally the point.

1) Who would make a better college professor, 6 or 11? What subjects would they teach?
Jonathan would definitely be the better professor -- he loves computer stuff and can actually make it comprehensible. Dominique is into analyzing people, so she'd probably teach psychology.

2) Do you think 2 is hot? How hot?
I tend to think of Cadmus as more of a dork. Maybe not in the strictest sense, but he's very studious and single-minded. In general, neither his personality nor appearance (which is generically "ordinary") are particularly appealing to me.

03) 12 sends 8 on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed?
Since Quethiril is a Pokémon researcher, she'd probably want Ara to see if there are any new Pokémon species on Earth II, and Ara one of the best naturalists in the universe, so she'd probably come up with a thorough report. They're actually rather compatible characters, now that I think of it, in spite of their totally different settings.

04) What is or would be 9's favorite book?
I can't imagine that Clarisse would read much fiction. She'd probably like books like The Art of War or The Prince.

05) Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around?
If Cadmus were transported to the modern world, where computers are analogous to magic, he might apprentice himself to Jonathan. Except for the fact that he's self-motivated, he's probably a lot like the typical Asian kid who wants to be an EE to make lots of money at the exhortation of his parents. Jonathan, on the other hand, likes his independence.

06) For some reason, 5 is looking for a roommate. Should they share a studio apartment with 9 or with 10?
Erif and Oralis would make pretty good roommates. They both have something of the "white knight" thing going on, and they're both fairly personable. On the other hand, even ignoring the gender issue, Clarisse probably prefers her privacy.

07) 2, 7 and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss?
Wow, way to have 3 characters with almost nothing in common. Andrew's dining preference would probably dominate, so they'd end up somewhere upscale and quiet, that affords them some privacy. I guess if it was Cadmus from later on in the series, when he's a leader and has to deal with the effect on nature of using magic, the three of them could support a conversation about environmental issues. Andrew probably has some pretty good environmental policies, and Quethiril, with all her research in natural settings, probably has some good first-hand perspectives.

08) 3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens?
Oralis would probably back off, being something of a gentleman. Shizue can be pretty stubborn and potentially has a sharp tongue, but I don't think she actually has any martial skills, so if it actually came to a fight, Oralis, being a swordsman, would win hands down.

09) If 1 stole 8’s most precious possession, how would she/he get it back?
I'm not sure what precious possessions Ara would have, much less what Iloraen would ever think of stealing, but they're both very level-headed women, so they'd probably be able to talk it out.

10) Suggest a title for a story in which 7 and 12 both attain what they most desire.
Andrew's biggest goal at the moment is to find a willing successor, and Quethiril's just looking to keep doing what she loves, so if Andrew found someone who would give lots of government backing to research programs, they'd probably both be happy. It wouldn't make much of a story by itself, but it'd probably work as the ending to the existing plotline in Arisova. ...except that doesn't currently have a title either. -_-;;

11) What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 and 1 to work together?
Well, as a matter of fact, Iloraen and Jervaine do work together. They travel to find Iloraen's father, the King, whose help Jervaine needs for his own purposes.

12) If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along?
That'd be pretty scary, having a dictator visit me. He can mostly take care of himself, especially if his daughter Angela is with him, so at least I wouldn't be swamped with security measures and Secret Service-type people. I guess we'd talk politics and spend lots of time making fun of how stupid the U.S. can be sometimes.

13) If you could command 3 to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be?
I'd totally ask Shizue to let me live with her in Japan.

14) Does anyone on your friends list write or draw 11?
Nope. I think Quethiril is the only character on my list has ever been drawn or written by others.

15) If 2 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be?
Tricky. Early on, while he's still trying to learn magic, Cadmus would probably chase after Jervaine as a potential teacher. But later, both Cadmus and Erif are interested in saving Telarin and preserving magic, whereas Jervaine has very selfish motives.

16) What might 10 shout while charging into battle?
"Prepare yourself!" or any other generic swordsman-like thing. ._.;;

17) If you chose a song to represent 8, which song would you choose?
Probably something generically peaceful that made one think of nature, like David Arkenstone's "Jewel of the Sea".

18) What might be a good pick-up line for 2 to use on 10?
"Nice sword you got there." XP

19) What would 5 most likely be arrested for?
Releasing unicorns that are locked up and mistreated in various human kingdoms.

20) What is 7’s secret?
That his country has nukes. D:

That was fun. If you're actually still reading, consider me very impressed. I liked it as an exercise to think more about my various characters, but I can't imagine anyone else being interested enough to know them all well enough for y answers to make any sense.

As a matter of policy, I don't usually tag people; plus I'm not sure who else on my flist writes, so those of you who would like to, consider yourselves tagged, and those of you who wouldn't, don't.

And now, back to citechecking. x_x
