[I'm randomly tempted to replace the "1" and "2" in my entry titles with 前編 and 後編, like they use in manga. I know people translate them as "Part 1" and "Part 2", but it's more like "First Part" and "Latter Part". It's one of those "more information in the same amount of words" kinds of thing, you know?]

So I did finish watching the EE tonight, and the easter eggs, and with time to DDR afterwards, too.

More of the re-using gimmicks, this time the whole Aragorn gloating at the "you and what army?" expression the bad guys have. Ah well. Still think they should have had some men on the ships, too. It kind of looked like they did, actually, when the ships pulled up to the riverbank, but it's one of those fuzzy things, just like the swan banner at the coronation.

Like with the Voice of Saruman, I feel kind of cheated with the Houses of Healing, too. I wanted talk of a king's hands, and darkness from having struck the Witch King, not fodder for Aragorn/Eowyn shippers. Did we forget that Faramir was actually mortally wounded while Eowyn, since apparently Merry recovered on his own, had nothing but a broken arm? Too much focus on Eowyn, and still no continuity for Faramir.

The "hair-mingling scene", as I think of it now, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kalquessa, was pretty satisfying. [That would be where Faramir and Eowyn look out over the city together. If you don't get it, go read the books.] Actually, I liked the scene of them before that, where Eowyn is looking all wistful and Arwen-like, and Faramir is watching her from the shadows, almost like a stalker. ^o^;; He's just so cute when he's not in battle-gear.

I'm glad they showed some romance between them, although Eomer could have looked a little more happy about it at the end rather than like an overprotective brother -- though from the way he screamed when he saw her body, I guess it's consistent with his character. But I would have been happy to see more of a progression from watching from a distance to, well, mingling hair.

I guess it would have been too much to ask for stuff about the Steward and the King as well.

The movies really make me love Rohan a lot more, though. Eowyn is my favorite of the women, but I don't like any of them all that much. But I always cry during the scene when the Rohirrim draw up to the hill, and they look out at the Pelennor covered with Orcs, and with the background music. It really is like in the parody, about Anglo-Saxons used to having no hope. I am such a sucker for things like that. I already mentioned how they play up Theoden's doubts some more, but he just pushes on anyway. It's almost as if they steal the spotlight from Frodo, the one who's really fighting the odds.

The drama of the scene with the Mouth of Sauron is totally different when you know that Frodo and Sam are safe and sound, relatively. You still feel for how much it destroys the spirits of the rest of the Fellowship, but it's not the same as when you yourself think they're dead. PJ never had the heart to leave us with such despair, apparently. I hated how the Two Towers trailers spoiled that Gandalf came back.

I guess that's all my griping. Really, I'm glad the extended scenes are there, even the skulls. It's just that they seem to do less for RotK than they did for FotR. And maybe that's because RotK started off better, or maybe because it's so epic, and the added scenes were more of the small moments. But it's the small moments that make the books.

I never think the easter eggs are as funny as the fan parodies, but whatever. Dominic Monaghan is teh cute with his scruffiness and clumpy blond hair. Makes me think of Yuki Eiri. And he does a killer German accent. My sister and I were cracking up when he told Elijah that the dolphin was dead.

So I guess this means the adventure is finally over. I still remember hearing that they were making Lord of the Rings movies, back when I was obsessed with Episode I. And now the Extended Editions are all out, and the story is over. What do I have left to live for?

*cough*Disgaea*cough*

Apparently there are rumors for a Hyperion Cantos movie. I wish there was Frodo's chance of reaching Mount Doom of it being as beautiful and faithful to the novels. But then again, I've also learned my lesson that no matter how much care is taken, my private visions will always be better, overall, than what they can do. Text is still the most versatile medium.

Anyways, enough with waxing poetic.

I love New Line for this. I hate it when they release box sets after I've collected something one by one, and I end up out of a slipcase. Aaah, they're so pretty and shiny. *_*

I'm pretty much sticking around for the live action Last Unicorn and the last HP book (so that I can settle a bet about it with my husband, who is wrong!)
