Meine Liebe is a new series (started this month). It's unreal, like in Hyperion where hack writers test their ideas on a focus group before putting it into their novels. So it's about this group of bishounen at some top school in a made-up Teutonic country. It's got angst and antagonism and attraction and lots of "good friends" who I'm sure will become more. There's the sleazy but oh-so-cool one. There's the somewhat punky reckless but true-hearted one. There's the ethereal and gentle one that no one can hate. There's the main character with unimpeachable morals. There's even a Japanese guy who probably has samurai-like values, despite the fact that we're in freakin' Europe and the school only accepts nobles.

The first half of the episode or so, I kept getting this feeling that I was supposed to like it, that it had all the right elements presented on a silver platter. But it just felt kind of slow and cliché. Now, having finished it, I guess it is somewhat intriguing. Very character driven kind of series, of course. If nothing else, it is a change of pace from the cutesy bishoujo, so I guess it was what I was asking for after all.

Anyway, so what made it truly unreal when I first heard about the series was the cast:

Sakurai Takahiro - He seems to do the main character for a couple of series I'm watching, although I don't think I've really heard of him before. He also does Yuuri from Kyou Kara Maou and Seiji from Tsukuyomi.

Seki Tomokazu - Um, yeah. If you don't know what he's done, shame on you. I thought it was usually Hayashi Nobutoshi who did the reckless ones, though.

Koyasu Takehito - Again, if you don't already know who he is, you don't deserve to. I'm not sure who he did; I have an idea, but the character wasn't referred to by name. If I'm right, he was the boring old dude. ^^;;

Seki Toshihiko - I can't remember why I know his name. (It's not just because he's another Seki, I swear!) I mean, he did Watari from Yami no Matsuei, Count D from Petshop of Horrors, and Mousse from Ranma 1/2, but none of those are roles that would really stick in my head, as significant as they are. I thought he sounded a bit nasal, but definitely with the D-like smoothness, and who can resist such ice-cold delivery? ^_^

Ishida Akira - I've been a bad, bad fangirl and not kept up with his roles. Last night was one long moment of, "Wait, he was Eyes in Spiral? o.O And Gokudo? And Satoshi from D.N. Angel -- okay, I think maybe I'd heard about that one before." You'd think especially with the whole Xelloss thing yesterday I'd know better. Eh. But yeah, he's the Japanese dude who does kendo. :P

Seki Toshihiko - I think a lot of fangirls know him as Duo from Gundam Wing? Also, Legato in Trigun... Matsuda in Yawara! But I doubt as many other people like that show as much as I... or have even heard of it=P Hrm... I need to go find more of that series=D
