Back to the anime talk.
May. 6th, 2004 07:06 pmSo I was studying for my Japanese vocab quiz during the 2 hour reflux in chem lab today -- nevermind that my Variac is apparently broken and I had to switch hoods and only got in 1.5 hours, as if not being able to vacuum filter in my own hood wasn't bad enough. Anyway, one of the TAs came by and we started talking about taking Japanese, which he had wanted to do. He asked me if I watch "anime cartoons", and he was telling me how he watches Naruto and has read all the comics and waits eagerly for the new episode each week. We don't watch any of the same series apparently -- since I don't watch the stuff everyone watches, like This Ugly and Beautiful World, or Fullmetal Alchemist -- but it was really amusing to see how animated he was.
(Speaking of FMA... I didn't know the music was by the same composer as Arc the Lad. The anime score isn't really all that spectacular, though.)
In anime club we watched the first episodes 5 random series that had come out in April, so I've actually seen Midori no Hibi and This Ugly and Beautiful World (Konomini). Midori no Hibi would be a really cute romance series that I could probably really get into . . . if it just wasn't so weird. I can't get over the freakiness. And here I thought Vampire Hunter D was creepy.
Konomini is also weird, but less freaky. I don't like being played around with by dramatic irony, though, so I think I'll pass. Hikari is evil, that's all I care or need to know.
I've finished the third episode of Kyou Kara Maou. Ah, it gets more complicated. It's kind of like Fushigi Yuugi -- at first you're so involved with the new world, and then all of a sudden, "Oh yeah, what about back home?" It will be interesting. Definitely on my watch list.
Still haven't tried nor passed judgment on the series I mentioned last time.

Of course, the presence of green alcoholic beverages and marachino cherries in the animation studio might account for the weirdness...
