Not-anime post.
Jul. 21st, 2010 09:56 pmAlmost done watching Avatar! All that's left is Sozin's Comet. Though that's like a movie in itself.
Zuko is my new favorite character. Or, should I say, new Zuko is my favorite character. He is so likable when he's not all prickly and angry, whether it's his awesome moments, his dorky moments, even his thoughtful moments. And most of all, the many LOL moments. Especially when he's trying to channel Iroh. XD That speech about the inner self was about as good as Bilbo's birthday speech. I guess he's perfect for being the butt of comic relief because he's so serious all the time. ^^;;
Is his new self worth the long, drawn-out transformation? I'm not sure. I wanted to throttle him for much of the first half of Book Three. Then again, if he hadn't gone back to the Fire Nation, we wouldn't have gotten to see his relationship with Mai, which was oddly cute, in a creepy, disturbing kind of way -- which I'm guessing is exactly how the writers meant it to be. "I don't hate you, too. *smooch*" Yeeeaaaah...
Anyways... not much else to say, really. Awesome show with awesome characters. Will there ever be another such not-anime?
I guess I can add that I still don't get girls' attraction to Sokka. But I'll chalk that up to them not quite getting his character design right. :P
Anyhow, I just wanted to get the thoughts down before I finish off the series. I almost watched the Ember Island Players episode twice in a row because it was so funny. Totally pointless, but hilarious. "Nice Zuko costume, but your scar's on the wrong side." Ahahaha. XD
ETA: It occurred to me that Zuko is kind of like Leon from Tales of Destiny -- or rather, how Leon should have turned out if it wasn't for Libra IV. *mutter mutter* Would explain why I like Zuko so much. Can't resist prickly, angsty nobles of ambiguous alignment. Or maybe I've just been thinking about Leon lately because I just special-ordered the third volume of the new Leon-centric Tales of Destiny manga. But there are definitely similarities parallels, like Iroh and Marian (aside from one being an old man and the other being a young woman).

Date: 2010-07-22 12:36 pm (UTC)And hey, Sokka's somewhat cuter when they put his hair down, at least. =P I actually like Sokka a lot more than I expected I would. Iroh wins for favorite character, but Sokka's close behind (but he has to get behind Appa, too. Appa reminds me of my bunny). Guys in this show need to learn: more hair = better. It worked for Zuko!

Date: 2010-07-24 08:27 pm (UTC)I've been watching it on Netflix, too, and also considering whether I should get the boxsets. But I just noticed they went up in price on Amazon since I last checked. =/ Maybe I'll just get Book Three...
I thought Zuko was okay with mostly-shaved head... and there's always the awkward scruffy period when they have to grow out their hair. But I liked Aang when he had hair.
