elwenSo at Fanime, there was this skit called Meme Flu. And one of the memes it mentioned, that I didn't recognize, was "danjo danjo". So I decided today to look it up.
Like "Dragostea din tei" and "Caramelldansen", it's based on a song. Like "Caramelldansen", there's the signature dance, to which people started putting characters from all sorts of series. Danjo has a bit more of a story than Caramelldansen. If you can call it a story.
There's a subtitled version of the original video here (suprisingly, the song is actually in Japanese this time). The "story" is pretty stupid and the song gets annoying after a while, but the parodies are really, really good.
[If you don't want to watch the subtitles, the story goes something like this: One person is talking to the teacher and the teacher wants people to sit alternating male and female (男子 and 女子) as per regulations, but there are too many guys. So the teacher says, "Ok, do male female male male female male female," and the guy responds, "male female male female male male female?" And the teacher says, "No! It goes like this: dan-jo-dan-dan-jo-dan-jo (男女男男女男女)" while the two of them do the dance. I told you it was stupid.]
The Bleach one is really good all around.
The Reborn one is decent, and gets mention for the illustration of "sensei! all the girls went shopping and won't come back".
The Sailor Moon one was hilarious, mainly for stabs at gender-ambiguous characters, and also for incorporating sound clips from the series.
And I meant to link to the Code Geass one, but I forgot what made it good.
And, for Moyashimon, instead of "Danjo" we have "Kinkin" (菌菌), with completely voiced-over and rewritten lyrics.
If you want more, look on YouTube under 男女. (Even better, you could go on NicoVideo, but I haven't gotten around to figuring that site out yet.) A couple I glanced at but didn't think worth individually recommending were Mariokart, Gyakuten Saiban, and Fullmetal Alchemist. And there are tons of Haruhi ones; I've just never watched the series.
Now I'm going to have the "dan-jo-dan-dan-jo-dan-jo" stuck in my head. I will have to listen to Caramelldansen a few times to get it out. :]
