You know what's the most annoying plot device ever? Killing the girl, so the protagonist, instead of becoming all lovey-dovey and living happily ever after and ending the show, will now hold a grudge, and the producers will have a plot, which will last them a good 20 episodes at least. I mean, really now. Why can't she be a cheerleader and egg him on from this side of the grave?

I won't say what show I have in mind, but man, they had me convinced that she wasn't a throwaway character after all . . . and then they threw her away again! And she didn't even do any immediate good in sacrificing herself and getting killed! (Besides the whole inspiring a grudge and prolonging the plot thing.)

Bah humbug.

This sounds too much like poor Shirley Fenette from Geass. Please don't tell me there's some other poor tortured girl in another series who has to go through what she did. >.

Oh you bet there is. But yeah, it describes Shirley pretty well, too. :(

Warning: Huge Naruto spoiler ahead. Please skip if you are not caught up on the manga and hate spoilers. (Not that you care bout Naruto :D.)

At least Naruto does it differently and kills Naruto's teachers one by one instead of his love interests. I am in mourning because I also happen to like the folks who taught him. Who knew mentorship had such fatal consequences?

It's kind of like Harry's DADA teachers... though they don't all die, per se.
