RightStuf has licensed Maria-sama ga Miteru and will be releasing each season as sub-only boxsets. According to AnimeOnDVD, they'll include the "Maria-sama ni wa Naisho" specials, too. If so, it will be exactly what I want (subs, specials, boxset) without anything I don't want (dub, limited edition crap, collecting disc by disc). Good show, RightStuf.

Niftiness! I'm glad someone finally picked up Marimite, and I've always been happy with the results when Rightstuf has the license. Thanks for the info, would've probably missed this news for awhile otherwise :)

I'm not familiar with the series, but at least the format they're considering sounds great - subs in season boxsets. Hopefully that helps lower the cost as well.

Now if only someone could do that for Gintama... :D

A shounen series like Gintama, which is meant to have general appeal to young male audiences, would never get a sub-only release. It's more likely to get licensed so it can be aired as a dub, with the DVD release as only a secondary consideration. At least, that's my understanding of the industry.

Marimite is in far more of a niche market -- like many of RightStuf's shows. Though I've never quite figured out what it's exact audience is. It's very shoujo-y, being about friendships at an all-girls school, but it has vaguely yuri undertones, which seems to attract a male audience, too.
