Anime post.

...dang, it's been a long time since I've done one of these. I might have to break it up, or come back later with series I forgot to mention.

This current season has been kind of blah. There are some interesting shows, but not as many as usual, and not as interesting as they usually are.

Hatenkou Yuugi is my favorite, though it's clearly been a flop, given that it's going to end after 10 episodes. It's based on a shoujo manga, but I didn't like the art when I looked at the books at Kinokuniya, so that's no help. It's about a spunky girl who's traveling with a tight-lipped guy with a dark past and an outgoing, optimistic guy whose background I haven't figured out yet. I'm bad at describing personalities, but it's their personalities that drive the show, so yeah. Story-wise, they travel around from town to town in a medieval fantasy-ish world. It's a bit like Kino no Tabi, except that the stories are focused on individuals rather than societies. I just really enjoy the interactions between the three main characters -- it's that sense that they completely understand each other and like to poke fun at each other all the time. A little bit like Shannon and Pacifica in Scrapped Princess, perhaps.

Rental Magica is also good; as much as a harem magic show can be good. Don't know what else to say about it, except that the timeline tends to confuse the hell out of me. As I said to my sister, "It's like the producers couldn't figure out what sequence the novels go in, either," since we couldn't figure that out last time we saw the novels at Kinokuniya.

Spice and Wolf has been occupying my attention of late. It's about a wolf spirit who takes the form of a human girl and basically imposes on this traveling merchant to take her north. She gets to be clever and he gets to be unsettled. It's fun.

Clannad is still as awesome as ever. It's a lot like Kanon in a lot of ways, but slightly less on the supernatural front (after the first arc, at least). Basically, high school guy gets to know various weird girls at his school and becomes involved in their problems and such. The guy himself is quite awesome and much less spineless than in other shows of this genre, so I like it for that. And the girls are more tolerable than most of the Kanon girls, too. Overall, I guess, it's more down-to-earth, where I would describe Kanon as "ethereal".

And I think that's all I'm following right now. Oh, and Saiunkoku Monogatari, of course. And I would be following Aria the Origination, except I haven't finished Aria the Natural yet. ^^;;

And... I don't feel like writing anymore now. D: But I'll list the series I've finished recently and maybe eventually I'll get around to writing about them:

This season (although they're likely old) I've been watching La Corda d'Oro, Nodame no Cantabile (very popular o_O), Kino's Journey, and Ergo Proxy. Seen any of them?

Yup. ^^;; I've actually only seen about half of it, though. And I haven't seen any of the others, though I tried an episode of Ergo Proxy and found it a bit too sedate for me.

lol. I don't like Ergo Proxy because it's not quite sedate /enough/ for my tastes ^_^ My favorite of the bunch is La Corda d'Oro, but that's because I'm a classical music freak. Its evil twin, Nodame no Cantabile, is for some reason deeply popular in Korea and Japan.

We sampled Moyashimon last term, and I was going to use it + Sayounara Zetsubou-sensei to replace Blood+, except that Zetsubou-sensei wasn't fully subbed, and Moyashimon's subbing was even further behind. I haven't had a chance to keep up with either of them since then (I barely have time to get fansubs for samplers), so I have no idea how well the cuter, higher-energy cousin of Mushishi played out after the first episode. Other shows from last term that seemed interesting but I never got a chance to pursue included Kaiji and Neuro (the one about the demon who eats mysteries). I tried watching Rental Magica, but the first episode just seemed too generic (though not nearly as much as, say, Gundam 00 or Dragonaut).

Let's see...Spice and Wolf is something I had scheduled for samplers this time around, and Adam also wants us to take a look at the new GeGeGe no Kitarou. Beyond that, we'll probably have club-members make essentially random (that is, non-random but uninformed) choices between Shigofumi, Persona, True Tears, Mnemosyne, and Dennou Coil (which doesn't really fit the way we usually handle samplers, but things are a little sparse this term and Adam pushed for it).

Moyashimon was pretty random in terms of story -- I watched it mainly because the microbes were cute. And I guess the humor is good most of the time. I'd say it's worth watching, given the short length.

I have Mnemosyne on my list, too... though there were a couple scenes in the trailer that seemed a bit over-the-top sexual, so you might want to screen that before showing it at club?
