Whee.

I love the interconnected world we live in. By the time I found the USGS page and got ready to post this entry, [livejournal.com profile] jd3000 had beat me to posting, and I had gotten an email about it from a friend at Stanford.

But USGS won't let me report it yet... (Though it just updated, as I was writing this entry, to say that the magnitude was 5.6.)

My parents, only 2 miles away, didn't feel a thing, although they reported lamps swinging. I blame their being out of touch. :-D

Heh, well, my dad and I both ran out of our rooms to tell each other (after it stopped), while my brother apparently didn't care and just stayed holed up probably playing video games.

Also amusing to me is that on the internet reporting map (http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/ca/STORE/X40204628/ciim_display.html), most regions on the peninsula reported the intensity as a III, but at Stanford it was a VI! Pansies. XP

I think I would have given it a VI myself if I'd been reporting it on the scene right then. I was pretty shaken up afterwards. Half the panic came from the fact that I was in the building that houses the fab, giving a midterm exam. If we'd had to evacuate due to a chemical spill after the earthquake, in the middle of the midterm... Yeah, you get the picture.

Meanwhile, my shelves now need some light reorganization. Why am I always at an antinode for these things? Just once I'd like to be the one to say "Quake? What quake?"... *sigh*

Funnily enough, my shelves WERE in need of it, but now they're perfect!
