I don't care about Dumbledore being gay, but how could JKR say that Neville married Hannah?! What about Luna?? :(

[Links stolen from flist: here and here. There are probably stories about it everywhere by now.]

...okay, so I guess I find it hard to imagine Dumbledore loving anyone romantically, and I don't think his relationship with Gindelwald was portrayed properly if that's how JKR saw it. I mean, it was too intellectual and too BFF. Maybe I just read too much BL with idealized romance. :|

Apparently Cho married a muggle. Source: Jenn.

I'm just waiting for a particularly rabid Puppyshipper to claim she decided this about Dumbledore so no one could accuse her of killing off Sirius and marrying off Remus to break up their OTP. (Note: I do not expect this of most Puppyshippers. I just think at least one exists that will view it that way and be loud about it all over the internet.)

Luna/Neville would've been nice, but in general I'm encouraged by any interhouse marriages, so I'm not heartbroken by Neville/Hannah.

Do Gryffindors mate for life?

Poor Luna... is she stuck off by herself? Someone's got to appreciate her unique personality.

Maybe Dumbledore/Grindelwald was just too unrequited to look romantic? (Dunno, I think I'm still not-there-yet in Deathly Hallows...)

Your Kouyuu icon works just as well for canon WTF?!? as for fanfic. :)

Well, Luna went off to travel the world looking from crumple-horned snorkacks and the like. [livejournal.com profile] koshiroryuu's theory is that she settled down with some nice foreign girl, which is a decent second-best, I guess. ;)

Sometimes, canon is stranger than fanon. :P

I had to double-check that I hadn't spelled it interhovse before I posted. =P

Gryffindors certainly don't _date_ for life. I don't know about their marriages, though.

I just feel a bit iffy about it because it looks too much like some fanon that was pulled out of someone's ass. "Oh uh... let's make Dumbledore slashy. With his best friend/rival. Even though he never showed a single inkling of anything of the sort." (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Who knows, maybe JKR just SUCKS major-core at developing romantic relationships/inclinations with her characters, het or otherwise.

That's kind of where I was going when I said, "I don't think his relationship with Gindelwald was portrayed properly if that's how JKR saw it." But yeah, I guess none of the canon ships were very convincing, so maybe it's just JKR. D:

There's a nice article (http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1674550,00.html) from last week's issue of TIME that basically concludes that Dumbledore must have been ashamed of his orientation because nowhere in the books does JKR give any indication of it. Which is probably a decent story-internal explanation. But here -- as with eagles flying into Mordor -- I have to say the story-external explanation is more convincing: either it was just an afterthough, or JKR sucks at this particular aspect of characterization.

Also interesting is the article's observation that, if you make Dumbledore gay, he starts to resemble the creepy, priest-molesting-little-boys kind of gay. D: (Well, I guess it doesn't add the second part, just says Dumbledore is selfless, sexless, and idealized, but JKR added that second part herself, through Rita Skeeter.)
