Rename game.
Aug. 9th, 2006 05:49 pmSo, inspired by
twelvebeauties, who recently renamed her journal, I've been looking at what usernames are still available that I might want. It's a bit disappointing because my top choices are all gone, but, well, that's how it goes. Much like AIM screennames.
In any case, I thought I'd take this opportunity to make a poll about it.
[Poll #789493]
Unavailable names that I already checked (i.e. don't suggest these): elwen, lady_elwen, daylilly
Names I considered and rejected: arendel, vaire
Explanations of the options:
quethiril - My "translating name" and the one I use on some, mostly translating-related, forums. The only issue is that if I ever get busted for scanlations, the LJ would go down with it. It's not really a separate identity or anything, but it would make this LJ even more a mix of various "spheres" of my life. I do really like the name, though.
lilliaceae - The name I use for things closer to "real life", such as the Netdecks online mafia forum. It has proven to be rather unspellable, however, which could be a potential source of problems. For the most part, people who read this LJ know who I am anyway, so it's not a problem of "revealing" my real name. (Plus you could always just do a whois on my domain name.) I'm mainly worried about the unspellableness, I guess. And that it would make the LJ "feel" different somehow.
elwenskye - My long-lived penname. I just don't like having to use the full name. [I'd hate it even more with an underscore, even though with "Lady Elwen" I'd prefer it. Me? Irrational? Never!]
arendel - My penname from online journaling days. I haven't used it in forever, and am not all that fond of it, which is why I rejected it.
vaire - My other LJ account. But the name is waaaay too pretentious. I only considered it because, hey, I have the account anyway.
So yeah, not a whole lot of good options, which is good, because I won't be in a rush to waste $15 on it. But still, I've been dissatisfied with ctrl_a for a long, long time. As I've said in various places, it was an impulsively chosen name, back when I had no idea I'd use this LJ so much.

Date: 2006-08-10 06:22 am (UTC)I haven't seen that many people refer to me using the lj-user tag, but I figure I should plan for that and not choose something too difficult to spell. In online mafia, people refer to each other frequently, so I've seen the wide variety of ways you can mispell "lilliaceae", and nowadays most people just call me "lilli". [But it's still not as bad as my former roommate, whose username is symbelmyne or simbelmyne or something like that, and maybe with an umlaut on the terminal e. Elvish names are still the worst. :P]
