elwen: (Beauty and the Geek)

The second season of Beauty and the Geek started airing last Thursday, and one of the contestants, Tyson, is a Techer. I've actually known him a lot longer than that, since we were at the same session of CTY two years in a row. He's never struck me as super geeky -- not enough to get on a TV show -- just kind of soft-spoken and very sweet. I mean, he's a band geek, but he's still a lot more socially capable than most Techers. Then again, he is very obsessed with Rubik's Cubes. (That's my theory on why they chose him: so they could give him the title "Rubik's Cube Record Holder". Much cooler than "Tracks Monkeys with Lasers", or the guy who is simply "Neurobiologist" because that word confounds the girls.) I'm glad they mentioned DDR in his online profile, though, because he sure can dance. Which makes me wonder: in the preview or whatever, they show the pairs performing on stage, and they show Tyson solving a Rubik's Cube and thrusting it into the air. Why the cube? Why not replay the steps to, say, Stomp to My Beat? I mean, at least you've got the spins...

Someone at Tech organized a screening of the first episode when it first aired, so we all watched it together in a lecture hall. Tyson was there part of the time, giving us insider commentary, such as the fact that they had to retake the opening 5 times because the golf carts couldn't make it up the driveway. Lots of fun. Most of the other boys on the show seem a lot more geeky than Tyson, and as Techers we could laugh at them all, with or without the irony. Especially at the insufferably arrogant MIT graduate. :P

Anyhow, to commemorate the trainwreck of a show, I made an icon of my favorite scene in the preview thing.

I'm not really one to use animated icons, and I suck at making them, but this is a special occasion. I'll probably keep the icon around for *facepalm* sorts of posts. Would appreciate feedback on whether the icon makes sense. The scene begins with Tyson saying, "Do you know who's on the five? Abraham Lincoln," but it didn't seem necessary to me to include that. Then again, the scene jumped out at me the first time I watched it, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since, so.

BTW, "Thais" is pronounced like "tie" . . . and like the first syllable of "Tyson". I don't know if they set it up that way on purpose, but it's half cute and half disturbing.
