The "I am not dead" post.
Aug. 25th, 2005 05:07 pmI guess some of you have figured out that I'm not dead after I posted comments on your entries, but this is a general announcement that, no, I am not dead. Apparently, though, the last vestiges of my journaling craze that started back in . . . oh man, 1999, was it? are gone. I mean, I still hear that narrative voice in my head, and feel the urge to make dry comments about things, but I guess the inclination (or time) to actually put it down somewhere has gone away. Dunno, could just be a phase.
So what's been going on?
I kind of finished a SURF. Kind of as in I left my supervisor with some 88 samples for him to run, and considering many of those are redos of samples that turned out to be broken in the form in which they were previously run, I can't really draw many conclusions without them. But it's been a week and I haven't heard back yet, so I don't know what's up with that. The final report is due September 23, so I'm not worried yet. And the presentation isn't until October 15, although I had nightmares last night about not having my PowerPoint ready and desperately trying to fix the graphs during the previous person's talk. But yeah, now that I'm at home, SURF stuff feels kind of far away. Bad for writing the report, I guess, but I don't think I'll forget what I was doing and all the lovely problems I had.
I've been sort of kind of attempting to study for GREs and look at grad schools, but it's been slow. At Tech I just didn't have that much time at night, especially after my sister came to stay in the last two weeks. And right now I just haven't felt the mood to do anything productive. Obviously if it stays that way I'll push myself to get things done, but I really just needed a one week break from stuff.
In other news, I've been watching lots of anime, of course. Maybe someday I'll get back to reviewing stuff, but then again, maybe not. Oh, my sister and I have started rewatching Sailor Moon. I guess the first season was kind of blah, if only because they haven't found all the senshi yet. But I might as well go through in order.
Also, I'm still translating stuff, of course. Night Exile, Eternal, and Nameless-Scans have all released more of my stuff -- Elixir, Matantei Loki, and Melody of Oblivion, respectively. I did the layout for Night Exile, too. The first bit of web design I've done in ages. And, um, I'm doing Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito for Red Mages, but you probably don't want to read that. >_>;;
Finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince yesterday. Much more satisfying a book than Order of the Phoenix. I actually really want to read the seventh book now. Lots of theories and thoughts on things, but eh, not really for sharing. Surprisingly, I managed to steer clear of any discussion at all, despite the fact that everyone in my lab had finished the book within a week of it coming out. I had no idea what was going to happen from book-external clues, and that was really nice. I've been rereading a lot of books lately, which is enjoyable as well, but sometimes it's just not as good when you know what's coming.
Hm, I really need to start working on Ditch Day, too. Especially since it looks like my schedule next year isn't going to be any nicer than it's been so far.
