More anime.
Oct. 24th, 2004 06:01 amSampling a lot more manga series. Haven't really settled on any more than what I mentioned last time, though.
Bleach is still awesome. It has a fairly cliché setup: a guy with exceptionally strong spiritual powers ends up becoming a shinigami and fights the monsters that attack him wanting to devour his spirit. I like the characterizations so far, so it's a nice action fluff series. And, after all, there's lots you can do with shinigami and stories revolving around spirits that haven't gone to heaven. But, dude, they have those flashy memory wiping things they used in MIB. Except the replacement memories are random. o.O;;
I watched the first episode of Tactics, which was so-so. Can definitely see the similarities to MaLoki. Seems like another spiritual medium goes around solving cases kind of series. So far, not so much of the endearing cute humor Loki has, but Haruka is probably more badass than anyone in MaLoki.
I think I'll probably stick with Phi-naru Approach (and I will insist on spelling it out that way, too). I suppose it's a harem anime, in the sense that there's one lead guy and every other main character is female, except they're not all in love with him. I don't know. It seems like there should be a genre for something like that. Well, anyways, it's cute and quite funny, and surprisingly even Shizuka with her strong-arm overkill tactics hasn't started grating on me too much.
Watched the first episode of Tsukiyomi, which followed the manga reasonably well, but I felt like the humor was a bit forced and out of place. The manga reads much more smoothly. And what the hell is with the opening? O.O;; So I'll give it a bit longer, but I might drop the anime and just follow the manga. Like all the other series I'm watching now, it's cute and funny, although it has potential for some dark plot yet to be revealed. Actually, Tactics and Bleach will probably head in that direction, too. But there just doesn't seem to be any heavier, more plot-ful series that interest me so far. I'm thinking of things along the lines of Scrapped Princess and Melody of Oblivion. Or even a bit more character drama like Maria-sama ga Miteru. Just lots of cute bishoujo this season, or something. Ah well.
