[Halfway done with mock trial. Was decompressing by reading flist, but after this quick post it's back to refining my opening and cross and trying to remember the new parts of my direct.]

A really bad post in [livejournal.com profile] japanese reminded me of another bad post. [The latter being bad in that the content is appalling, whereas the first being bad in that the poster is appalling.] That reminded me of the comments in my post about the bad post, particularly the ones about whether you could really make an encryption system with kanji.

That reminded me of the Japanese puzzle recently posted by a [livejournal.com profile] japanese member at his new blog. The solution is pretty mind-blowing. I have no idea how I would ever have come up with that -- those Mystery Hunt people must be the most creative, non-linear thinkers ever. But yeah, it involves kanji, which is why I thought of it. I don't want to give away the solution more than that (although that's already a pretty big giveaway, I think). The full solution is in the next post.

It's not really encryption with kanji per se, but that's where my train of thought led. [I know, the post title is ridiculously cheesy. That should show you my current state of mind, after a day of mock trial.]

Now I want to make icons with quotes from the book, too. XD

Woot, I totally figured it out on my own. Although I did look at the hint but that only partially made the difference.

(Although I didn't actually know all of the kanji and thus didn't solve it per se.)

Okay, I lol'ed at the comment "PERA PERA MAX!" near the bottom of the first post, as well as the "desu amirite" on the second post. I would really like to know what the poster was thinking, though.

Oh yes, [livejournal.com profile] japanese is great as a source of information, but it's also great for snark. :D I liked the part about inserting Japanese into sentences whenever you feel it is tadashii to do so.

I wonder about the OP... I mean, the post itself is like "okay, whatever", but then she asserts that she's fluent in her profile. 9_9;;

I think if I was told it had to do with kanji, I might have figured it out. But I didn't even know it was supposed to involve the language -- I thought it was pictorial or cryptographic or something.

Did you see the Chinese puzzle? It looked pretty neat.

I got "你要找的词是___" ^^;;; Not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for there.

After I wrote that, I remembered that I'd once done something similar (the crazy bad language, not with the assertion of fluency, though). I think I just wasn't all that self-aware at the time. Ahh, youth. Well, hopefully, we all grow up.

Uhh... there are too many characters in there I don't understand (找,词) to know if that makes sense or not... but apparently all the answers are supposed to be an English word, or something like that.

Yeah uh, that meant "The word you are looking for is ___" ^^;; Basically it came down to me not being sure if some things are errors or not.

English-wise, I got something like "hee can read chinese" and I thought it was just leading to "hope you can read chinese". Guess not?

The answer (http://beforebreakfast.net/blog/?p=28) is up now. Looks like you were definitely on the right track, but yeah, it doesn't make sense unless you get all the errors, which makes it hard.

Well, that was retarded. I got "水鳥" but that is not a term in Chinese or English so I figured it was a further clue step and I couldn't progress without any indication of what I'm looking for.

Even the most clever Chinese lantern word puzzles will tell you what category the answer is. >PPPP

Yeah, I thought the answer was pretty dumb, too.
