elwen: (studying and classes)

Power came back last night, then went off and on again twice -- I'm sure our RAID 5 network drive loved that. After the second time it went off again, I gave up and just went to bed, though it seems to have been stable since then. I did work a bit more on my paper on my laptop during that time -- good thing I hadn't moved to working on my desktop yet.

So things are looking a little bit better, maybe. Still left to deal with:

- 15 more pages of paper to write, and I discovered that I don't really understand the knowledge requirement for contributory copyright infringement and have been spouting badly organized nonsense for 5 pages. *sigh* I'm not sure how much time I'll have to edit when I get done either. I'm kind of disappointed in myself because it's a class I really liked, and a topic I'm interested in, and it's graded off-mean so it's a good chance to raise my GPA. Also I kind of want to submit it for the law review note call at the end of the month. Well, we'll see.

- I have no idea what classes I'm taking this semester. I'm planning on shopping around this week -- I'd really like to avoid Friday classes, but right now they're looking inevitable. What sucks is that the more I shop, the less time I have to work on my paper, which is due Friday.

- Even for the classes I am taking, I don't have the textbooks. And some of them haven't posted syllabi, but I doubt that means we don't actually have a reading assignment due on the first day.

- I still haven't gotten around to reading the mock trial fact pattern, and I never did do any cross-ex or closing argument practice like I promised myself I would after my last training session was a total disaster. (And I mean, total. disaster. No exaggeration.) My only consolation is that the scientific evidence simulation was kind of like practice, and I seemed to handle that okay, so maybe my problem was just not grokking the fact pattern enough, and trying to go straight to writing a closing argument rather than think through the legal arguments. I hope it doesn't take me too long to convince my team members that I'm not as much of a liability as the training suggested, because I'm sure right now they feel sorry for me, and feel sorry for themselves that I'm their teammate. -_-;;

- My tuition check got lost in the mail apparently, so now the school is charging me a 1% late fee (which is a lot, given the tuition amount) and threatening to put a hold on my account, which means I won't be able to register for classes. So I have to go in and pay it off, and tell them not to cash the original check if/when they get it, and see if I can get the one-time late fee waiver. And no more paying by mail from now on. (Their online payment system charges insane fees, so that's no good.)

I guess I'm just going to have to take this week one step at a time...

...oh, somehow the original point of this post got lost: I just spent about 2 hours going through internet-related backlogs, including email and flist. So if there's something you think I missed, let me know.
